Let’s Talk About Your Pain and Your Non-surgical Treatments!

Our Spine Surgeon and Pain Specialists are happy to discuss the possibilities of the latest and most advanced pain relief options.

In minimally invasive spine surgery, as well as endoscopic procedures, a smaller incision is made, sometimes only a half-inch in length or by using a tool called an endoscope. Entry and repair is achieved without harming nearby muscles and tissues when using minimally invasive techniques. This is great news for all those are candidates for a surgery.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Reinvented!

How? Compared to traditional “open” spine surgery, endoscopic spine surgery requires one tiny incision, a small scope, and camera to access and surgically repair the damaged area of the spine causing pain. After the surgery is complete, one stitch closes the site where the camera was placed. The goal is for fast relief and an easy recovery!

Endoscopic Rhizotomy

An endoscopic rhizotomy is a minimally invasive endoscopic surgery that allows direct visualization of the medial branch nerves that supply the facet joints in the back of the spine. This procedure may also be called a facet joint denervation.

Medial branch nerves are very small nerves that innervate the facet joints of the spine. Facet joints are the joints connecting the different vertebra of the spine to each other. The joints are present on both sides of the spine from the neck to the lower back. This is an out-patient surgery and the patient is able to return to work within a few days.

Endoscopic Microdiscectomy

An endoscopic microdiscectomy is a minimally invasive endoscopic surgery that allows direct visualization of the disc and nerves. This procedure is used for decompressing nerve roots damaged by compressed spinal discs.

It is usually indicated in patients with a herniated or compressed lumbar disc, who have not found adequate pain relief with pain management injections or conservative treatment. Or, the pain after pain management injections returns rapidly and the pain is intolerable.

Many patients who suffer from sciatica, referred pain down either leg, and/or lower back pain may be a candidate for this procedure.

This procedure can also help in relieving pain associated with Spinal Stenosis and low back arthritis. This procedure is also called a Keyhole Spine Surgery.

This revolutionary minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery has proven to be an alternative and reliable method for spine surgery that can be achieved through various methods utilizing small access channels to the spine. The EndoLIF® access now minimizes the open “submuscular access” to an endoscopically assisted fusion access to the intervertebral disc, such as interbody fusion with the EndoLIF® O-Cage.
What this means is much like the approach to the Endoscopic Rhizotomy and Endoscopic Miscrodiscectomy, the EndoLIF® – Lumbar Interbody Fusion surgery allows our surgeon to introduce an implant through a minimally invasive technique with significant tissue trauma reduction and shortened recovery time. This is also an out-patient surgery for most healthy patients.
With the use of a camera, our surgeon performs the surgery through the small working channel to place the remove the damage disc, remove small amount of lamina(bone) to free compressed nerves, and the place the implant to create stabilization in the lumbar spine. This endoscopic surgical method is viewed as a gentle further alternative to microsurgical techniques.

Additional Surgical Procedures Offered

Some patients will require a more invasive procedure, but the great news is that most healthy adults can still be seen our in modern out-patient surgery center for their spine surgeries and return home the same day.

Mini Open Surgery

A Mini Open Surgery is a minimally invasive spinal fusion procedure that is similar to a traditional spinal fusion. The good news it that is requires a much smaller incision and causes less trauma and blood loss.

Depending on your condition, our spine surgeons and pain specialists will offer the safest approach for the best results. This procedure is use in an Anterior Cervical Discectomy Fusion (ACDF). In this surgery, the injured disc is removed and replaced with hardware to stabilize the spine and provide pain relief.

A patient may also require a mini open surgery for a lumbar microdiscetomy that will require a small incision and retractors to access the area. This is also an out-patient procedure and the patient is allowed to return home the same day!

Artificial Disc Replacement

An Artificial Disc Replacement, also called a cervical disc arthroplasty, is an artificial or synthetic disc that replaces the damaged disc and allows for a full range of motion, allowing the spinal segment to remain mobile.

This procedure is performed to avoid a spinal fusion and keep the range of motion of the spine intact. Our Surgeons and Pain Specialists deem this procedure a success for many of our athletes and patients with active lifestyles who want to return to doing what they love.

Spinal Cord Stimulator

Spinal Cord Stimulator Implants, referred to as a Spinal Cord Stimulator or Neurostimulation, works by intercepting pain signals before they reach the brain. Our Pain Specialists are highly trained in diagnosing the root cause of your pain and will determine if you are a candidate for a Spinal Cord Stimulator. You may be a candidate if you have:

• Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
• Chronic pain in the back, neck, arms, or legs that has lasted at least six months.
• Neuropathic pain (pain marked by burning, tingling, or numbness).
• Little or no relief from surgery or other treatment options, such as pain medications, nerve blocks, or physical therapy.

This system, similar to a cardiac pacemaker, is used to replace pain with a different feeling which creates a new method for treating pain. To do this, a small system is implanted within the body by our trained physicians and monitored for optimal results and relief.

Congrats to another raving fan of Dr. Timothy Luke and the team at Minimally Invasive Spine AZ! The patient had an out-patient, decompression surgery of his lumbar spine at L3/L4! He is standing tall and feeling great again. “When I came to here my pain level was through the roof. And after the surgery the pain was small the first two weeks, but now I am getting stronger and my mobility has totally improved. Today I am in NO pain! I have my life back thanks to Dr. Timothy Luke.”
We love seeing our patients get back to living a life they love after a minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Luke performed an L4-L5 decompression surgery to alleviate back and leg pain. Carlos wrote, "Before my laminectomy with Dr. Luke I had been in terrible pain for 4 years. I tried everything from physical therapy to shots with little results. The pain kept me from enjoying the outdoors and working out. After the procedure I was hiking within a week. I’m in considerably less pain and I can once again be active. Thank you so much."
"As a medical doctor i recognize an excellent physician when I find a good balance of knowledge, skill, caring, compassion and understanding. I would only allow a physician with those qualities to perform my required invasive procedures. Without question, Dr. Nasser possess this balance. From the time of the first interview, until completion of my last surgery, Dr. Nasser and all this staff have gone great lengths to assure my successful recovery with the utmost professionalism, skill, knowledge, understanding, caring and compassion. Thanks again for being there."
I am very grateful that I took a chance on AZPTc. Dr. Nasser is the BEST! I've been having back pain for at least a decade but the last two years have been extremely bad. My really bad days were a 10 out of 10. After meeting Dr. Nasser for the first time and having him look at my MRI he immediately came up with a plan of attack to help me get my life back. Four weeks after having a Radio Frequency Ablation I have ZERO PAIN. I mean ZERO. In fact, immediately after my procedure I was pain free. I’m back to working out and doing the activities that I enjoy doing and not having to worry about how my back is going to feel the next day. I would recommend AZPTC to anyone especially Dr. Nasser but everyone in the office is really nice and professional. Many Thanks to Dr. Nasser and the whole AZPTC team. For people out there who think there is no hope and your just going to have to live with your pain please give AZPTC a chance.
