What is Laser Assisted Spine Surgery?

Laser Assisted Spine Surgery(LASS) is a minimally invasive procedure that makes use of a laser to remove tissue with heat rather that with traditional instruments, without injuring surrounding soft tissue. As with other modern minimally invasive procedures, it can result in less scarring.

Our surgeon's expertise in minimally invasive procedures and laser spine surgery, coupled with his advanced training and experience, will help guide you in choosing the best option for you.

Why Laser Assisted Spine Surgery?

Because surgical technique, patient safety and satisfaction, and great outcomes are extremely important, our surgeon takes advanced measures and precautions for each spine surgery patient.

  1. Perform by a top Fellowship-Trained Spine Surgeon
  1. Identify target area and visualize with Spinal Endoscope/Microscope
  1. Monitoring of the spinal cord and nerves with Intra-Operative Neuro-monitoring
  1. Adjustable LASER Energy to customized surgery options.
  1. Tiny Incision/Scar for less post-operative pain and quicker recovery.

Pain presents itself in many different ways, at different times and in many cases is triggered by specific activities. Modern Spine Medicine will be happy to answer your questions in conjunction with a personal phone call follow up with one of our doctors.

Common questions about Laser Assisted Spine Surgery

Here are answers to some of the more common questions we have asked. If you have additional questions that relate to your condition, our team will see you in the office for a free initial consultation or MRI review.  We will be able to answer all of your questions with an added personal touch, applying them directly to your specific problem areas and source of pain.

Are there risks specific to laser spine surgery?

Yes, there are risks associated with laser spine surgery like any other surgeries/procedures. With the new laser technology, the energy of the laser can be adjusted so that it safe to use during spine surgery. In addition to using the real time Intra-operative X-rays, we routinely use either Microscope or Endoscope to identify the target. Intra-operative neuro-monitoring is also used during your surgery.

In my opinion, laser spine surgery can be successful because I use laser in conjunction with magnified high definition Microscope or Endoscope to directly visualize and then safely deliver the laser to the target tissues without damaging the surrounding nerves. These approaches may not be available at some other laser spine surgery practice and put the patients at risks. Unfortunately, some of the laser spine surgery groups do not own the microscope and/or spinal endoscope and put the patients at risks.

Can it last spine surgery effectively treat my condition?

Highly likely. Our approach is customized to each individual patients and their situations. We don’t believe in “One size fits all” approach. Laser spine surgery can be successful because we use laser in conjunction with magnified high definition Microscope or Endoscope to directly visualize, then safely deliver the laser to the target tissues without damaging the surrounding nerves.

Is Laser Spine Surgery Performed by Trained Spine Surgeons?

Sadly, not always. Some laser spine surgery groups allow doctors who are not Fellowship-Trained in spine surgery to perform laser spine surgery. The problem with that is, while those doctors understand how to perform the surgery itself, they don’t always understand the condition of your spine, or the spine in general – and if something goes wrong they may not be able to fix it.

Can Laser Spine Surgery be done in a Out-Patient Surgery Center?

Yes! This is becoming the growing trend in healthcare and popular among patients seeking Laser Spine Surgery. We perform our surgeries at Modern Ambulatory Surgery Center, a state-of-the-art surgery center that offer concierge patient care and a welcoming experience to all our patients.

What other surgeries are offered in our out-patient surgery center?

Congrats to another raving fan of Dr. Timothy Luke and the team at Minimally Invasive Spine AZ! The patient had an out-patient, decompression surgery of his lumbar spine at L3/L4! He is standing tall and feeling great again. “When I came to here my pain level was through the roof. And after the surgery the pain was small the first two weeks, but now I am getting stronger and my mobility has totally improved. Today I am in NO pain! I have my life back thanks to Dr. Timothy Luke.”
We love seeing our patients get back to living a life they love after a minimally invasive spine surgery. Dr. Luke performed an L4-L5 decompression surgery to alleviate back and leg pain. Carlos wrote, "Before my laminectomy with Dr. Luke I had been in terrible pain for 4 years. I tried everything from physical therapy to shots with little results. The pain kept me from enjoying the outdoors and working out. After the procedure I was hiking within a week. I’m in considerably less pain and I can once again be active. Thank you so much."
"As a medical doctor i recognize an excellent physician when I find a good balance of knowledge, skill, caring, compassion and understanding. I would only allow a physician with those qualities to perform my required invasive procedures. Without question, Dr. Nasser possess this balance. From the time of the first interview, until completion of my last surgery, Dr. Nasser and all this staff have gone great lengths to assure my successful recovery with the utmost professionalism, skill, knowledge, understanding, caring and compassion. Thanks again for being there."
I am very grateful that I took a chance on AZPTc. Dr. Nasser is the BEST! I've been having back pain for at least a decade but the last two years have been extremely bad. My really bad days were a 10 out of 10. After meeting Dr. Nasser for the first time and having him look at my MRI he immediately came up with a plan of attack to help me get my life back. Four weeks after having a Radio Frequency Ablation I have ZERO PAIN. I mean ZERO. In fact, immediately after my procedure I was pain free. I’m back to working out and doing the activities that I enjoy doing and not having to worry about how my back is going to feel the next day. I would recommend AZPTC to anyone especially Dr. Nasser but everyone in the office is really nice and professional. Many Thanks to Dr. Nasser and the whole AZPTC team. For people out there who think there is no hope and your just going to have to live with your pain please give AZPTC a chance.
