Let’s Talk About Laser Spine Surgery

Our Spine Surgeons and Pain Specialists are happy to discuss the possibilities of Laser/Laser-based/Laser-Assisted Spine Procedures. The Laser Spine Surgery procedure involves the use of a laser to address damage in the spine and remove disc and bone without injuring surrounding soft tissue. A small tubular system or micro incisions, assisted with endoscope or microscope, are inserted to access and view the surgery site and perform the procedure where the surgeon will be utilizing the laser.

This minimally invasive surgical procedure may be the answer to a patients condition and pain verses conventional spine surgery that involves screws, plates and rods. While most spine surgical procedures do not require the use of a laser or similar tools like the laser, it is an option that our surgeons may recommend to deaden the nerve endings in the facet joints and help to remove painful impingements. Our expertise in minimally invasive procedures and laser spine surgery experience will help guide you choosing the best option for you.

Does insurance cover “Laser” spine surgery?

Unfortunately, health insurance does not cover ‘Laser” spine surgery. The “laser” is a tool used in spine surgery and is not the actual means of the surgery technique. Great News! We utilize a tool that is covered by insurance called an Endovapor®.

This tool allows us to offer minimum penetration and maximum control to the appropriate areas during a minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery. (Endoscopic uses a small camera to visualize and accurately treat the surgical areas of the spine.) The high frequency-/low temperature technology of the Endovapor®, enables precise working which is indispensable in order to preserve healthy tissue and protect vital structures.

With the Endovapor®, our surgeon can achieve various effects: coagulate, incise, resect or vaporize. Such versatile tissue effects cannot be achieved by conventional electro surgical units (ESUs), laser or hand instruments. Learn more about the Laser verses Endovapor® at your surgical consultation!

Spine Surgery Vs Minimally Invasive Surgery

You may have been recommended traditional open spine surgery as a treatment for back pain if you haven’t found significant relief through conservative care. We highly encourage you to research all of your options before having open neck or back surgery.

It is your spine and your health and wellness matter above all. We can help you assess your options and provide the latest technology and surgical options offer by our world class spine program. Unlike open neck or back surgery, our minimally invasive out-patient procedures offer less risk of complications, reduced risk of infection and shorter recovery time. You can also avoid the hospital stays associated with traditional open spine surgery.

In our experience, we find that in our out-patient surgery center, each patient saves thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs associated with surgery.

At Modern Spine Medicine our Laser Spine Surgery is conducted by our specialists using a versatile mid-power laser from VersaPulse. This machine is capable of handling a wide range of applications requiring precise cutting and controlled ablation.

"Dr. T and team utilize the laser to assist in most lumbar surgical procedures bringing precision and skill to the next level. Depending on each patients' condition and injury, all efforts to combine the laser for spine surgery while providing the best possible outcomes will be determined by our surgeon. We are confidence we have the best treatments and answers for our patients.
